3D Laser Scanning

Metrology is the region’s expert in the use of 3D laser scanning technology.

3D Laser Scanning allows us to capture a digital image with the use of a Class 1 laser (meaning the laser is safe under all normal use conditions). That allows us to measure the distance between the scanner and the surrounding objects.

The scanner works by vertically directing the laser beam at a mirror and using a rotating body that projects the laser beam in the horizontal direction. The scanner electronics then use the “Time of Flight.” In this process, the laser range finder uses the time of the round trip of the light emitted from the scanner and compares it to when the reflected light is returned. This time is then used to measure distance. Laser scanners can measure from 4 to 40 million points per scan.

Metrology is proud to offer the best in 3D laser scanning technology right when you need it. Clients in the construction, engineering, real estate and many other markets can put our capabilities to the test to make their jobs easier.
